Certificate in Accounting and Bookkeeping Course
Africa Institute for Project Management Studies (AIPMS) is pleased to announce a Certificate Course in Accounting and Bookkeeping which starts 1st of every month.
Overall Course Overview:
Maintaining accounting and financial records is one of the most basic yet critical functions of a good business. This certificate covers the fundamentals of bookkeeping for those who wish to pursue it as a career, as well as for entrepreneurs who want to manage their own books in a more professional manner.
 Course Objectives
Any conventional accounting student who goes through this course must be the end of the study be able to correctly interpret financial information, correctly classify it and know which accounts they affect. They should also visualize the effects of all these accounting entries to the overall financial statement.
In addition, they should understand how to operate the double entry concept of accounting and how this assists to ensure that transactions are correctly classified and well shown in the financial statements.
Course Outline:

  1. Conceptual framework of accounting.
  2. Accounting as an information system.
  3. Users of financial information.
  4. Recording financial information and Double entry treatment of transactions.
  5. Preparation of Financial statements
  6. Ethics in reporting financial information.

 

Computing Requirements:

Participants will need to use email, upload and download word docs,
PowerPoint files and PDFs, and post on the discussion board or send assignments by email.   If you do not have internet speed sufficient to download materials, an offline DVD or hard copies course may be the right alternative for you. Materials Provided: Online delivery of curriculum materials, exercises and templates.

Exercises:

After they have read the material for each unit, students are expected to test their own Learning by completing some relevant exercises and tasks.

Assignments:
In order to demonstrate their understanding of the course content, students will be required to submit three assignments.
