Monitoring and Evaluation  Certificate Course
Africa Institute for Project Management Studies (AIPMS) is pleased to announce a Certificate Course in Monitoring and Evaluation Course, which starts on  1st  of every month for two months.
General Course Outcome:
Now more than ever, funding organizations seek more accountability for the funds they provide to development projects. Development organizations understand they are more likely to receive future funding if they can deliver and show results. That’s why employees who have specialized Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) skills are in demand. This specialized knowledge helps to assess a project’s performance and its lasting impact.
The program provides students with competencies in the following areas:

  • Monitoring and evaluation methods
  • Quantitative and qualitative research methods for field-based monitoring and evaluation
  • Historical contexts and critiques of monitoring and evaluation
  • Innovations and the practice of impact evaluation for organizational learning

The program will include opportunities to learn monitoring and evaluation techniques that are connected to specific sectors and are connected to the values of the organizations, including health, economic development, gender, youth, environment, education, and government

Monitoring and Evaluation Framework
• Types of Frameworks
• Role of in Monitoring and Evaluation planning

Introduction to Monitoring and Evaluation Plan
• Describe the functions of an M&E plan
• Describe the main elements of an M&E plan
• Define standards for an M&E plan
• Describe some of the complexities of M &E plan
• Provide an overview of M&E plan implementation modalities

Data Collection, Capture, and Data Quality Checks
• Identify types of data collection tools
• Identify type of tools at each M &E level
• Define data capture
• Identify key steps in data capture
• Define data quality
• Quantitative methods
• Qualitative methods

Data Analysis, Interpretation and Reporting
• Role of data analysis in monitoring and evaluation
• Types of data analysis
• Interpretation of data
• Deciding which reporting methods to use
• Writing an effective M/E report

Course Organizers:

Participants will need to use email, upload and download word docs,
PowerPoint files and PDFs, and post on the discussion board or send assignments by email.   If you do not have internet speed sufficient to download materials, an offline DVD or hard copies course may be the right alternative for you. Materials Provided: Online delivery of curriculum materials, exercises and templates.

 

Exercises:

After they have read the material for each unit, students are expected to test their own Learning by completing some relevant exercises and tasks.

Assignments:
In order to demonstrate their understanding of the course content, students will be required to submit Five assignments.
